A Stitch in Time

May 12, 2011
News from The Fund for Peace
The Fund for Peace President, Ken Brill, participated in a panel discussion May 11 at the launch of the Bipartisan Policy Center’s new report, “A Stitch in Time”. The report focues on stabilizing fragile states, an issue of key concern to The Fund for Peace.
Ambassador Brill applauded the report’s characterization of stabilizing fragile states as a being “crucial to the national security interests of the United States,” as well as its emphasis on the need for prevention and a focus that goes beyond security to include those issues that affect the bond between state and society. He noted the range of issues the report said were important for stabilizing fragile states track well with those issues covered by The Fund for Peace’s Failed States Index. Finally, he said the release of the report was timely, given ongoing public debate regarding the federal budget deficit and the value of U.S. government programs directed at international engagement, such as foreign aid and international exchange and training programs.
The report can be downloaded from the Bipartisan Policy Center website here.
