Following the success of the initial workshop in this series, held in Tirana, Albania in September 2004, The Fund for Peace will partner with The Atlantic Council of Serbia and Montenegro, based in Belgrade, Serbia, on a second workshop for journalists, government and disarmament experts, and a new Partnership for Peace Trust Fund website created by The Fund for Peace and partner NGOs across the world. Its purpose is to encourage the submission of frequent news, human interest stories and opinions to NATO's website linking civil society with the multilateral centers of power.
The second workshop will take place in Belgrade on 10-11 April 2005. Keynote speakers include President Tadic, Minister Davinic, ASG Amb Altenburg, Veran Matic of B92 and journalists, policy experts from the Balkan region as well as leaders from the US, Canada, the EU, and the UN.
The meeting will help advance the goals outlined at the last conference:
- Promote the Partnership for Peace Trust Fund demilitarization projects in the region
- In collaboration with NATO IDS, conceive and create a TRUST website and Style manual to encourage submissions from civil society
- Build support for local NGO partners in the TRUST campaign
- Support the goals of Partnership for Peace and its Trust fund
- Bring together nations, organizations and civil society to work on issues of shared concern with NATO
- Help develop local capacity
- Promote PfP Trust Fund with donor countries
